Born on the 24th of September, in the year 1861 in the city of Agra, Motilal Nehru was a significant activist in the Indian National Movement, who took office as the President of the Indian National Congress twice. Father of the first prime minister of independent India Jawahar Lal Nehru, Motilal Nehru was the main patriarch who laid the foundation stone of the most powerful and politically influential Nehru-Gandhi family.

Academically, he pursued law and began practicing as a lawyer in the city of Allahabad and fought a number of high end civic cases and became a prominent personality in this profession. His success knew no bounds when he gained a stature in Britain’s books and started traveling to Europe quite frequently, which garnered a lot of criticism from orthodox Hindu communities.

He was the founder of the famous daily paper, The Independent, and his involvement in the country’s nationalist movement happened when he was deeply influenced by Mahatma Gandhi’s principles, which led him to give up his luxurious ways of living life, and thus, leaving all the western clothing and accessories behind and adorning traditional Indian attires.

He passed away on the 6th of February in the year 1931.
