Born on the 11th of June in the year 1897, Ram Prasad Bismil was a renowned political entity who had a key role in the Indian independence movement, and strongly opposed the dominance of British Imperialism.
A devoted poet who penned down a number of poems in Hindi as well as Urdu, Bismil’s role as a revolutionary in history is most remembered for his involvement in the conspiracies of Mainpuri in the year 1918, as well as Kakori in the year 1925.
He was a loyal member of the Arya Samaj, and had connections with famous freedom fighter Lala Har Dayal, who was also a part of the same association. Although he used a number of pen names for his poetry, such as Agyat, Ram as well as Bismil, he became widely popular by his last name “Bismil.”
He was one of Bhagat Singh’s favorite leaders, and was also one of the founding members of the Hindustan Republican Association. Creator of a variety of famous poems, his most cherished poem is “Sarfaroshi ki Tamanna” which revolves around the subject of struggle for freedom.
He passed away on the 19th of December in the year 1927.
