About Bhim Sen Sachar

Born on the 1st of December in the year 1894, Bhim Sen Sachar was a famous Indian politician, who served as the chief minister for the state of Punjab, twice.

Having pursued a career in law, he started practicing the profession before developing a keen interest in politics and joining the Indian National Congress party at a very young age.

After India attained independence, Sachar became a prominent entity in the Congress party and apart from his designations as the chief minister of Punjab for two times, he also went on to serve as the governor of the state of Orissa and later, as the governor of Andhra Pradesh.

Married at a very young age, he had a son, who was named Rajinder Sachar, and went on to have a successful career in law, becoming the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court and also being the architect of the Sachar Committee—which drafted a report on the status of the religious minorities in India, raising many eyebrows.

Bhim Sen passed away on the 18th of January in the year 1978, at the age of 83.
