Imperative Indian Valve Industry
About Indian Valve Industry
An ‘essential’ in any industry and utility involving fluid and gas is the valve at some stage or the other in the entire operation. Such is the importance of a valve in a system as a regulator in the entire process.
Technically, three main types of valves suit and meet a particular application. These are Throttling, On-Off and Non-Return. The first category consists of Diaphragm, Butterfly, Needle, Pinch, Stop Check, Angle and Globe including the Y-pattern.
Ball, Plug, Hydrant, Gate and Ram fall in the second slot of On-Off valves. Split disc-check, Lift-check, Swing-check, and Tilting-disc check are the Non-Return valves.
In addition to the aforesaid fundamental three types, there are several other classified valves. Some of them are Manual, Leader, Ball (Jacketed, Solid, Flanged, Venturi and industrial variety) and Union among others.
With each of these valves having an advantage and a disadvantage too in some specific situation, its design and production call for precision and high caliber in technology.
In this context, over the years, the Indian valves industry has fared satisfactorily. Valve manufacturers in India have kept apace with the latest state-of-the-art techniques from across the world.
This industry is estimated to be worth more than INR 140 billion, catering to the process industry in different crucial stages.
Market analysts have forecast that on the global front, the segment of industrial valves is expected to experience annual growth of 5.4 percent and touch the mark of $93.5 billion in 2015.
They have bracketed India and China among the developing countries to be the beneficiaries of this development. As on date, scores of Indian manufacturers have bagged premium overseas contracts and encouraging orders.
To bridge the gap of demand and supply of products and services from the Knife Gate valves manufacturers, India has made their presence felt.
These valves are specially designed and produced to meet the tough conditions encountered in pulp & paper, mining, and steel industry.
There is also a huge demand for Knife Gate valves in the chemical and textile processing industries, water and sewage plants, systems of both clean and corrosive gases and fibrous materials like fly ash at thermal power plants.
An exclusive feature of these valves is a bidirectional facility that enables the flow of fluids and gases in either direction as needed. Rigid standards specify the make of the Knife Gate valves.
In late October 2013, a 3-day mega trade event of this industry was hosted at Ahmedabad in Gujarat. Over 6000 visitors representing 10 countries participated in this meet. It also witnessed Direct and Reverse Buyers-Sellers sessions involving over 50 international buyers.
On the occasion, technical seminars on Chemicals as well as Pumps and Valves were organized. 30 speakers addressed the delegates in each of these symposia.
Less than a month later, in December another trade fair on industrial pumps, valves, and systems, named ‘Valves India’ was held at Coimbatore.
This city in Tamil Nadu is the hub of the valve, pumps and compressor industry in the country. Other important centers of valves manufacture are located in Gujarat, Maharashtra and West Bengal states.
These indicators reflect a bright future for the valves industry in India and the stakeholders are confident of rising to the occasion.
