Sushila Didi Birth Anniversary: 5th march
About Sushila Didi Birth Anniversary
The date of 5th March marks the birth anniversary of one of the courageous women revolutionaries and nationalists of India, SushilaDidi. She was born in the year 1905 in a village located in the north-western state of Gujarat in India.
It was in the year 1926 when SushilaDidi was a college student that the execution by hanging of Indian freedom fighters and revolutionaries enlightened in her a deep spirit of nationalism. At that point of time, the revolutionaries hanged till death included names like Roshan Singh, Bismil, as well as Rajendra Lahidi.
That same year, to embark on her journey to contribute to India’s struggle to freedom and help revolutionaries, SushilaDidi joined the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association.
With her, there was another woman revolutionary who joined HSRA alongside, and that was BhagawatiCharan Bohra. She began helping fellow revolutionaries in their mission during her association with HSRA.
When Bhagat Singh and his contemporaries were caught after the bombing conspiracy in the assembly, SushilaDidi helped a long list of revolutionaries flee the spot and she was also the one to arrange for a house in Kolkata [then Calcutta] where he could take shelter.
In fact, because of the Delhi conspiracy, when the young and popular revolt, Bhagat Singh along with Batukeswar Dutta were both arrested, it was SushilaDidi along with another woman revolutionary called DurgaBhabi, helped the other fellow revolutionaries escape the scene, preventing them from punishment.
In the year 1931, she along with a list of other revolutionaries managed to shoot the European Sergeant Taylor as well as his wife, and also managed to flee from the spot without getting caught.
During her later years of life, she only focused on helping Indian revolutionaries, and also performed a list of social works, for which she earned the title ‘’Didi’’ as a suffix to her name, which means people regarded her as their older sister, someone they could count on, always.
She passed away on the 15th of January in the year 1963, at the age of 58.
