Born on the 4th of September in the year 1825, Dadabhai Naoroji was a significant political leader who also happened to be a trader of cotton, and a social leader. He made a record for himself by being the first Asian man ever to be a member of the parliament at the British sector. He served as an MP at the United Kingdom House of Commons, between the years 1892 to 1895.
Hailing from a Parsi background, he was known as the “Grand old man of India,” and he was a prominent entity in the founding of the Indian National Congress party. Throughout his lifespan, he had penned down a number of books, the most famous of which was “Poverty and un-British rule in India,” which focussed on how India lost all its wealth and economy to the foreign rule by the British Raj.
He keenly studied India’s poverty and how much colonisation by the British government contributed in the downfall of the Indian economy. Throughout his career he received admiration and appreciation from prominent political figures like Mahatma Gandhi as well as Bal Gangadhar Tilak, who considered him to be a father figure for the country.
He passed away on the 30th of June in the year 1917.
