About Srisailam
Located on the top of the Nallamala Hills in the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, Srisailam is a popular pilgrim place for the Hindus, widely renowned for housing the holy shrine of Lord Mallikarjuna.
The place is popularly known for its religious as well as historic significance, its inscriptions denoting its existence in the world from an era as early as the reign of the Satavahanas—who was one of the first empire builders in the entirety of southern India.
It is also known by the alternate spelling Shrishailam. Geographically, it lies on the banks of holy River Krishna. The primary tourist and pilgrim attraction in the place is Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple, which happens to be one among the 12 jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva in the whole country. The shrine was formerly known by the name of Srigiri.
The second most popular shrine hereafter the Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple is the Bhramarambha Temple, situated in the same complex as the former.
The four primary gateways of Srisailam according to epigraphical evidence are Tripuranthakam, Siddhavatam, Alampur, and Umamaheswaram, whereas the four secondary gateways are Eleswaram, Somasila, Pushpagiri, and Sangameswaram.
