Ram Manohar Lohia – Freedom Fighter of India

Born on the 23rd of March in the year 1910 in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Ram Manohar Lohia was a renowned political leader who played a key role as an activist in the country’s independence movement.

Pursuing his primary academics from the University of Calcutta, where he got his degree in Bachelor of Arts, he went to Germany to pursue his further studies. After excelling and learning German, he gained immense appreciation and scholarship to study National Economy as his prime subject and thus, went on to become a doctoral student from the year 1929 until 1933.

He always opposed the dominance of colonial powers over the world, and was also the secretary of the Indian Students’ Union at his university in Germany. He took keen interest in Mahatma Gandhi’s socio-economic theory, and penned down his thesis on the same agenda.

He had authored a number of books, including The Caste System, Fragments of a World Mind, as well as Guilty Minds of India’s Partition. His involvement in the Quit India Movement was acclaimed widely.

He passed away on the 12th of October in the year 1967, at the age of 57, in New Delhi.
