Hajo – A Popular Pilgrim Spot
About Hajo
Located on the banks of the holy Brahmaputra River, at a distance of approximately 24 KM away from the city of Guwahati in the north eastern state of Assam, Hajo is a popular pilgrim spot, widely known for its multidimensional religious significance, for three religions—Hinduism, Islam, and Buddhism.
Coming to the Hindu dynamics of religious significance, Hajo houses a list of popular Hindu temples, as well as a variety of sacred artifacts.
Out of the lot, the Hayagriva Madhava Mandir is the most popular one, followed by other temples like the Ganesha temple built in the year 1744 AD and the Kedareshwara Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva built during the reign of Rajeswar Singha.
The major tourist attraction spots in the place include first and foremost the Hayagriva Madhava Temple, followed by other notable structures like the Madan Kamdev Temple, the Kedareshwara Temple, and also the Hajo Powa Mecca, which happens to be a Muslim pilgrimage center, known to have the essence of sanctity that the main Mecca Shariff possesses. It is also said that the Powa Mecca actually was built by the soil brought in from the original holy city of Mecca.
