About Tamil Language

One of the most popular Dravidian languages in India, Tamil is primarily spoken in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu, where it is the official language and also in the union territory of Puducherry.

It also happens to be the official language of two countries, Sri Lanka, as well as Singapore and is also widely spoken by the Tamil Diaspora. In Malaysia, Tamil is one of the four languages used as a means of education, the others being, English, Mandarin, and Malay.

Other than the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu, in India, Tamil is also massively spoken by individuals in Kerala, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and of course Puducherry.

It is also spoken by minor groups in other south Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. In foreign countries too, the language has fine visibility. Some of these foreign countries include United Arab Emirates, Canada, Mauritius, South Africa, the Philippines, etc, to name a few.

The oldest literature in the history of languages, Tamil literature’s origins date back to an era as ancient as around 2000 years ago. It happens to be one among the 22 languages of India under the eighth schedule of its legal Constitution.
