Halbi Language

Belonging to the family of Indo-Aryan languages, Halbi is an Eastern-Indo-Aryan language. It is also known by a list of other names. These are Halavi, Halabi, Bastari, Halba, Halvas, Mahari, as well as Mehari.

It is most widely spoken in parts of central India, and currently has a population of more than 6,00,000 speaking the language considering the census of 2001.

Coming to the regions where it has most commonly spoken, they are Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, as well as Madhya Pradesh.

The Halbi language is transitional between the two popular languages of Marathi as well as Oriya. Fundamentally, sentence formations in Halbi follow the generic pattern of subject + verb +object, similar to the English language, and mostly uses strong affixes, with a tendency of placing the adjectives right before the nouns.

The most widely used dialect of Halbi language is the Mehari dialect and again going by the census of 2001, there are more than 2,00,000 people who treat Halbi as their second language after Hindi.

Coming to the script that Halbi language follows, they are Devanagiri, as well as Oriya scripts.
