About Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day, also known as Saint Valentine’s Day and Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated on the 14th of February every year. The day has received global recognition over many years, however, it is not a public holiday in any country.

A lot of legends has been associated with this day, the closest being that of Saint Valentine, with the martyrdom story that he was executed in ancient Rome, simply because of the fact that he was an admirer of love who performed weddings of those soldiers who were forbidden to get married, and because of this, he was imprisoned and ordered to be executed.

As per legend, when in jail, he had also healed the daughter of the jailer, and in his last letter to her that he had written right before his execution as a farewell, he had signed off as ‘’Your Valentine.’’

The romantic angle to Valentine’s Day came to fore from the 14th century, and the day became observance of romantic love, where couples exchanged symbols of romance and love among each other.

From greetings to confectionaries, handmade gifts, etc. the day denotes people professing their love for each other, through gifts, messages, etc. Heart-shaped gifts and cupids are symbols quite widely associated with Valentine’s Day.

The day has become globally popular over the years, and before the main celebration of Valentine’s Day on the 14th of February, a Valentine’s Week is observed prior to the main day.

This week has a series of events one after another, which includes, Rose Day, observed on the 7th of February, Propose Day, observed on the 8th of February, Chocolate Day, observed on the 9th of February, Teddy Day, observed on the 10th of February, Promise Day, observed on the 11th of February, Hug Day, observed on the 12th of February, an finally, Kiss Day, observed on the 13th of February, before the ultimate Valentine’s Day observed on the 14th of February.

The day with all its romantic essence, is a popular celebration among couples, dating as well as married, and is often celebrated with cakes, gifts, romantic dinners, etc.
