Tadasana Urdhva Hastasana is also called the mountain pose on the wall with your arms above the head.

It is essentially a stretch of the full body and is used as a warm-up during various sequences in yoga.

It is also called the raise hand salute and it is one of the most commonly seen exercises done.

Required Steps

  1. Stand in the Tadasana pose with your arms outward so the palms are facing away from your torso and the thumbs pointing backwards. Inhale and sweep your arms from your side in an outward motion and up to the ceiling.
  2. If your shoulders are tight, then stop the movement when the arms are parallel, but not, then avoid hunching them forward and press the palms together firmly by first touching the bases together, then the palms and the fingers last.
  3. Extend your elbows fully and reach through your arms until the pinkies to turn the thumbs down a bit towards the crown of the head. Tip the head back slightly without compressing the back of the neck and gaze at your thumbs.
  4. Bring the front ribs in place towards the pelvis and the spine and lengthen the tail bone towards the ground. Evenly lift your rib cage and hold the position for a couple of breaths.
  5. Exhale and move your arms out to the sides and move the torso forward from the joints of the hips to fold into the Uttanasana pose.
