About Madan Mohan Malaviya

Born on the 25^th of December in the year 1861 in Allahabad, Madan Mohan Malaviya was a renowned independence activist, who is most notably recalled for serving as the president of the Indian National Congress, for as many as four times, and also was also the founder of the widely acclaimed Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in India.

A multidimensional personality, apart from politics he was also an eminent writer who had a number of journalistic works to his credit. In the year 1909, he commenced the publication of the famous English newspaper “The Leader” which became an influential piece for the public in terms of awareness as well as information.

He had also served as the chairman of the famous leading English daily “Hindustan Times” for a long period, from the year 1924 until 1946.

One of the very first leaders of the Hindu Mahasabha, he had also launched the Hindi version of the Hindustan Times—the Hindustan Dainik in the year 1936.

He was awarded with the Bharat Ratna Award posthumously in the year 2014, on the eve of 24^th December, which was one day prior to his 153rd birthday. He passed away on the 12^th of November in the year 1946 in Varanasi.
