About Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Born on the 24th of December in the year 1924, Atal Bihari Vajpayee is an eminent politician who has served as the prime minister of India twice; once for 13 days in the year 1996 and the next for a period between 1998 until 2004.
He made a record for himself by being the first prime minister ever outside the Indian National Congress Party who served as the prime minister of the country for the definite term of five years.
He was also one of the most significant founding members of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, and established the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) after the Jana Sangh saw an unfortunate end.
Born in Gwalior in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, he pursued his academic career with keen interest in political science and later started studying law, which he left midway due to the partition riots taking place at that time.
A master in the languages of Hindi and Sanskrit, he also penned down for a number of Hindi journalistic publications.
He retired from politics in the year 2009, due to health issues and it was in the year 2014, that the government of India honored him with the Bharat Ratna Award
