Celebrating World Hindi Day
About World Hindi Day
World Hindi Day is celebrated on the 10th of January every year. The trend began since the year 2006 and ever since then, the event has been religiously celebrated every year.
The World Hindi Day is an extension of the National Hindi Day, also known as Hindi Divas, which is celebrated on the 14th of September every year in India.
On September 14th, 1949, the Constitution of India has adopted the Hindi language written in Devanagari script as the official language of the Union and hence, the day has been observed as ‘’Hindi Divas’’ in the country.
However, what makes ‘’Hindi Divas’’ and ‘’World Hindi Day’’ different is the simple fact that the first is a national celebration and event while the latter is a global event, wherein the Union Ministry of External Affairs of India as well as the Department of Official Language of India, conduct a list of special events to spread the popularity as well as greatness of Hindi as an Indian language all across the world.
In this regard, we should know that as of today, Hindi is the fourth most spoken language in the world, after Chinese, Spanish, and English, and is the mother tongue of more than 258 million people worldwide.
