About Thiruvananthapuram
Formerly known by the name of Trivandrum, Thiruvananthapuram is the capital city of the popular south Indian state of Kerala, and happens to be the largest corporation in the entire state of Kerala. In history, freedom fighter and father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi referred to the place as the “evergreen city of India.”
While commercial factors make the place a happening one, in religious aspects too, Thiruvananthapuram is a place of interest for many pilgrims and devotees from all across the country.
Coming to that, the most famous shrine here is the Padmanabhaswamy Temple, which serves as a prominent Hindu pilgrim place. The temple is decked with antique Keralean as well as Dravidian architecture and in many ways resembles the famous Adikesava Perumal Temple located in Kanyakumari in India.
The temple is devoted to popular Hindu deity Lord Vishnu and as on today stands as one of India’s richest Hindu temples, decked with beautiful gold and a list of other expensive gems and stones.
Two of the most prominent festivals that take place here are Alpashy, that happens in the months of October-November, and Panguni, that takes place during March-April. Both are celebrated in grand fashion and lasts for a period of around 10 days each.
The festival of Navratri too is celebrated in great spirits here.
