About Telugu New Year
Telugu New Year—also commonly known as Ugadi in many parts of the country is celebrated every year, generally in the month of March, according to the events of the Hindu lunar calendar. This one is a special festive occasion for every Telugu individual in the world, especially those living in the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh where it is celebrated in great spirits.
While some Telugu Brahmins observe the festival refers to the lunar calendar, others choose to opt for the solar calendar and hence, this leads to some differences in the celebrations of the event on precise dates.
According to mythology, it is believed that Lord Brahma—known as the creator of the universe commenced his creations on this auspicious date of the calendar and also that the famous Indian mathematician Bhaskaracharya made calculations that said the day of Ugadi marked the beginning of a new year and new time.
It is believed that the celebration of Ugadi marks the change of the moon’s orbit in the solar system and hence, it paves way for new predictions for the year to be made along with new calculations.
