About Stacey Abrams
From 2006 to 2017, Stacey Abrams worked in the House of Representatives as a politician, lawyer, author, and activist. In 2010, she grew the first woman to head either party in the Georgia General Assembly, which she held for the next seven years.
She created Fair Fight after an unsuccessful race for Georgia governor in 2018. Fair Fight helped register at least 800,000 new voters in Georgia ahead of the 2020 general election. She has also published eight romantic thriller books under the pen name Selena Montgomery and her political career.
Early Childhood Development and Education
Stacey Yvonne Abrams was born on December 9, 1973, in Madison, Wisconsin, and is the second-best of Carolyn and Robert Abrams’ six kids: Andrea (born in 1970), Leslie (1974), Richard (1977), Walter (1979), and Jeanine (born in 1980). (1982).
Carolyn’s parents, who met as young lifeguards at a racially segregated Hattiesburg, Mississippi swimming pool during the height of the civil rights movement, briefly relocated to Madison so Carolyn could seek a master’s qualification in library science at the University of Wisconsin.
However, the couple grew Abrams in Gulfport, Mississippi, where she attended middle school until the family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1989, where Carolyn and Robert pursued graduate studies in religion and became United Methodist preachers at Emory University.
Early on in your career
Abrams started her political career as a copywriter when she was 17 years old after a congressional campaign committee was impressed with her modifications while typing for them. Maynard Jackson, Atlanta’s first Black mayor, with whom Abrams had clashed over social justice concerns during a televised 1992 town hall at Spelman, formed an Office of Youth Services in 1993 and employed her as the office’s lone undergrad college student.
After graduating from Yale Law School, Abrams worked as a tax lawyer at Atlanta’s equity firm. She worked on tax exemptions, healthcare, and public finance. Mayor Shirley Franklin appointed Abrams as Atlanta’s deputy city attorney when she was 29 years old.
House of Representatives of Georgia
Abrams was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2006 and became the House Minority Leader four years later. In 2010, Abrams became the first woman to head either party in the Georgia General Assembly and the primary African American to start in the House of Representatives, later climbing to the highest state legislative position.
Abrams served on the Appropriations, Ethics, Judiciary Non-Civil, Practices, and Ways & Means committees through her 11 years in the Georgia House (seven as Democratic leader). She flew to and met with leaders in South Korea, Israel, and Taiwan as Georgia’s senior Democrats at the time.
Attempts to Register Voters
Following her loss in the election, Abrams created Fair Fight, a voter protection and education organisation, in 2018. Its mission is to “build fair polls in Georgia and over the country, boost voter case in elections.”
According to NPR, she assisted in registering at least 800,000 new voters in Georgia ahead of the 2020 general election, resulting in Democrat Joe Biden winning the state’s electoral votes for President in 2020.
Books and other projects
Abrams co-founded two companies: Nourish, Inc., a bottled-water company aimed at infants and toddlers, and NOW Account, a financial services corporation that assists small businesses in growing. Her experience inspired the latter with a beverage company that couldn’t wait for payment after fulfilling requests.
