The most prestigious award which means the Jewel of India, Bharat Ratna is awarded to the citizen who gains a great recognition in the particular field.

Not only Indians, but people of other nations like Mother Teresa (1980), Nelson Mandela (1990), and Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan (1987) won this glorious award.

This respectful title is awarded to the people by government on the Republic Day, 26th January and others using it is considered to be a crime. The beautiful medal in the shape of peep leaf, with the name of the award carved on it along with a certificate is awarded to the people who won it.

First Bharat Ratna Award

The first award was presented in the year 1954 to Sri C.V. Raman, Sarvepalli RadhaKrishanan and C. Rajagopalachari.

A scientist, philosopher and a politician got the first medals and from then three people from various categories like art, social service is selected by the recommendation of the President and Prime Minister of the country.

The highest civilian award of India is presented Sachin Tendulkar the legendary cricket player at the age of 40 in the year 2014.

Along with him several people from various categories won this award as a great honor in the past few years. Jayaprakash Narayan, Satyajit Ray, J.R.D. Tata, Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya, Lata Mangeshkar, Bismilah Khan and a few more are the people who earned this prestigious award for their unique skills and services in particular fields.

Every year only 3 nominees is awarded this prestigious award from the President of India.
