About Vishwakarma Puja

Also known as Vishwakarma Day and Vishwakarma Jayanti, Vishwakarma Puja is a popular festival in Hindu culture that celebrates Lord Vishwakarma—a Hindu deity, known as the divine architect.

According to Hindu mythology, Vishwakarma is the one who created the world, and hence, called Swayambhu, in other words, a divine architect.

Many prominent creations in the world are accredited to Vishwakarma, for instance, the holy city Dwarka where Lord Krishna ruled, as well as the Maya Sabha of the Pandavas, along with some of the most powerful weapons for a list of gods—are all said to have been created by Lord Vishwakarma himself.

In Rig Veda, Vishwakarma is projected as the divine carpenter and is attributed to Sthapatya Veda, which happens to be the science of architecture as well as mechanics.

Every year, the festival falls either in the month of September or October as per the traditional Hindu calendar and this year in 2020, it will be observed on the 16th of September.

It is majorly celebrated in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Tripura, as well as Karnataka.

The festival is primarily observed in industrial units like factories, as peoplepray to Lord Vishwakarma for proper and safe working conditions for each and everyone and vouch for good work progress to be made,

Along with the architectural and engineering community (as Vishwakarma is known to be associated with the field of architecture) the festival is also observed by mechanics, carpenters, smiths, artisans, industrial workers, welders, factory workers, among others.

A special prayer is made during the festival to Lord Vishwakarma, to let his blessings dwell on all these work spaces, especially for the smooth functioning of all the machines and tools, since these are the elements that help in the entire creation process.
