Sri Rama Navami: Why Do We Celebrate Ram Navami
About Rama Navami
A popular and significant festival for the Hindus in the country, Rama Navami is celebrated to honor the birth of Lord Rama, who is a popular Hindu deity.
According to Hindu mythology, when Ravan started tormenting the people after becoming the king of Lanka and taking wrong advantage of Lord Brahma’s blessing of immortality to him, Rama was born to put an end to the people’s suffering and end the evil acts of Rama.
While Ravan had his wish granted from Brahma that no god could kill him, hence, Brahma decided that only a man would be able to kill him and put an end to his demonic activities. Ravan was callous towards such a thing as he never feared men.
However, his callousness proved to be the death of him as Lord Rama was born possessing Lord Vishnu’s powers and he went on to be a brave warrior who finally ended Ravan and marked the victory of good over evil on planet earth.
Ram Navami is celebrated in the months between April- May, according to the lunar Hindu calendar, right during the beginning of the Hindu New Year, and is celebrated in the country with pujas and offerings to the lord by conducting rituals, ceremonies and also fasting to honor the god.
