About Satyajit Ray
Born on the 2nd of May in the year 1921, Satyajit Ray was a renowned film maker who is till date regarded as one of the best filmmakers of the century.
Hailing from Calcutta, West Bengal, he began his career as a commercial artist, and since a very young age had immense knack towards arts and literature.
His perspective and interest towards film making bloomed after he went to London, where he met Jean Renoir, a famous French filmmaker.
A multidimensional treasure of talent, Ray went onto pursue the roles of not just a filmmaker but also a music composer, fiction writer, graphic designer, calligrapher as well as a film critic throughout his life.
He made a huge list of documentaries, feature films, and gained worldwide accolades and recognition, in various international platforms, including the famous Academy Award in the year 1992.
His films have garnered a lot of attention, for the realistic portrayals of characters and unique storylines, fetching him a plethora of national and international awards.
In the year 1992, the government of India honored him with the Bharat Ratna Award for his contribution and revolutionary acts in the field of filmmaking. He passed away on the 23rd of April in the year 1992.
