About Lata Mangeshkar
Born on the 28th of September in the year 1929, Lata Mangeshkar is an eminent figure in the field of Indian music, who has over the years entertained the audience worldwide with her melodious voice and impeccable skills in the art of singing.
She started off her career prior to independence since the year 1942 and went onto pursue playback singing for a huge list of movies and documentaries over the next seven decades.
Singing more than thousands of Hindi songs, and showcasing her singing talent in more than 30 regional languages of the country.
She made a significant mark for herself in the industry by being the only music after M.S. Subbulakshmi to ever win the highest civilian honor of Bharat Ratna from the government of India.
She learnt classical music under the guidance of Amanat Ali Khan and from a very young age, her gift of beautiful voice was promoted by a number of prominent artists in the industry.
Throughout her singing career, she has worked and collaborated with many famous musicians, such as Laxmikant Pyarelal and Rahul Dev Burman.
Her sister Asha Bhonsle too is a renowned figure in the music industry, who too has established herself as a cherished playback singer.
The Indian government honored her with the Bharat Ratna Award in the year 2001.
