About Khandala

Located on the Western Ghats in the Indian state of Maharashtra, Khandala is a very popular hill station located at a small distance of only 3 KM from another famous hill station in Maharashtra, called Lonavala.

In fact, such is the popularity of Khandala that its name was used in a very popular song of a Bollywood movie starring Aamir Khan and Rani Mukherjee, called Ghulam.

Geographically, Khandala is located on the road link between the Konkan Plains and the Deccan Plateau on a very big and prominent ghat called the Bhor Ghat. The very famous highway called the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, linking the two cities of Mumbai and Pune passes through Khandala.

Other than being a hill station that people simply love thanks to its soothing climate, breathtaking scenic beauty, and calm ambiance, Khandala also makes a fine spot for adventure lovers as it has a wonderful hiking trail making it one of the most appropriate places of interest for hikers who love to explore such trails.

  • Tiger’s Leap: The reason this spot is called a tiger’s leap is the fact that this is a valley, wherein when one stands to take a full view of the place it gives the feel of a tiger leaping into the valley, making it one of the most interesting spots in Khandala.
  • Duke’s Nose: This spot is named after the Duke of Wellington for the simple reason that his nose resembled the cliff as it was quite pointed. This place is the perfect spot for adventure lovers, as they can participate in a list of adventure sports here, such as trekking, hiking, valley crossing, rock climbing, as well as rappelling.
  • Amrutanjan Point: It is another high point in Khandala, giving the perfect panoramic picturesque view of the scenic beauty all around.
  • Bhushi Lake: A serene waterbody with crystal clear water and an even soothing surrounding to help one relax their mind and enjoy the feeling.
  • Karla & Bhaja Caves: these are historic Buddhist caves with rock-cut architecture.
