About Khajjiar

A popular hill station located in the Chamba district of the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, Khajjiar is nicknamed as the ‘mini Switzerland’ in India, for its impeccable scenic beauty that is surrounded by snow and meadows.

Khajjiar also happens to be one among the 160 other locations in the entire globe that shares a topographical resemblance with the beautiful central-European country Switzerland.

Geographically, Khajjiar is situated on a small plateau on a height that has an elevation of 6,500 feet above the sea level in the foothills of the Dhauladhar Mountain Ranges of the Western Himalayas. Khajjiar is a hill station also happens to be a part of the Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary. The official language in the town of Khajjiar is Hindi.

Coming to the accommodations, Khajjiar has a hotel, some cottages, and rest houses for tourists to stay in. The place happens to be a very rare location with a blend of three elements of the eco-system.

These are: Forests, lakes, as well as pastures. The easiest way to reach the hill station is by taking a bus from the neighboring town cum hill station of Dalhousie, which happens to be only at a distance of one hour away.

Coming to the places of interest for tourist attractions, Khajjiar has a variety of them. First and foremost, the beautiful lakes and the nearby forests make the place a wonderful spot to stroll and just have a soothing time with oneself as well as near and dear ones.

Other than that, there’s an ancient temple called the Khajjinag Temple that was built in an era as early as the 12th century AD, which is devoted to the Snake God—Naga, and has many snake idols inside.

The temple is beautifully carved with woods and there are many carvings of the Pandavas defeating the Kauravas in the great Indian epic—the Mahabharata.

Khajjiar also makes a great place for adventure lovers since it is a trekking trail too other than just a hill station. The trekking trails here have beautiful camping sites and the tolerance level is fairly moderate in the trails, making it an appropriate choice for children as well as the beginners.
