Depression is a condition that has debated upon for long wherein adages said it was just a tendency of the human mind. However, depression is indeed an illness of the brain.

In this condition, the brain’s chemistry changes rapidly, leading to what it’s called a person to be “depressed.”

Several factors can contribute to the condition of depression, starting from genetics, social aspects, fluctuating hormone levels, grief, stress, anxiety, medical conditions, as well as a variety of circumstances in life.

According to the World Health Organization, depression is one of the most common and most disabling medical issues, which can also be called a disorder, in the world.

Statistics suggest that women are more likely to suffer from depression than men, with reports saying one in five women fall in the trap of depression, while one among ten in men goes through depression.

Unlike several other conditions, depression has no discrimination and there’s absolutely no age or background bars. Any given individual in any phase of life is it love, friendship, marriage, job, finances, etc, can fall in the webs of depression.

However, the main impact of depression becomes all the more intense in those cases where the patient is already suffering from some other medical conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, etc.

The basic problem with depression is that it is seldom identified properly as the majority of the people treat the condition as a mere “down phase” or “mood swing,” which only makes the matter worse.

However, if the symptoms are diagnosed well and at the right time, with proper measures depression can actually be rightly dealt with.

Coming to the symptoms of depression, there’s a mix of things, wherein terms of feelings, a depressed person feels hopeless, guilty, unenthusiastic, lost, angry, etc, without any concrete reason per se.

And in terms of thoughts, they have more negative ones than positive, along with attention deficiency, the problem in focusing on things, remembering things, etc.

They have behavior changes too, wherein they withdraw themselves from their social life, try to harm themselves, cut ties with people, and a lot more. These factors then lead to a lot of physical as well as mental changes in them.

Coming to the treatment of depression, the best way to go about it is by letting a depressed person open up their heart to you.

Additionally, lifestyle changes, medications, and psychotherapy too are ways through which one can combat depression.
