About Mount Abu

Located in the Sirohi district of the northwestern state of Rajasthan in India, Mount Abu is a very popular hill station of the country situated on the Aravali Mountain Ranges.

It stands at an elevation of 1,220 meters above sea level. Mount Abu geographically forms a unique plateau with the dimensions 22 KM in length and 9 KM in width. The Guru Shikhar happens to be the highest peak on this mountain, standing at an altitude of 1,722 meters above the sea level.

Mount Abu is fondly and commonly referred to as the oasis in the desert, since the region happens to be a perfect hub of lakes, rivers, dense evergreen forests, as well as beautiful waterfalls.

The place was formerly known by the name of Arbuda Mountains and for decades has served as the perfect getaway spot from the scorching heat of the state of Rajasthan, as well as the neighboring state of Gujarat, with which it shares close borders. According to the 2011 census of India, the total population is a little over 30,000 people.

The place has a variety of Hindu temples, which garner a lot of tourist attractions as well as pilgrims, and around 290 square KM of the area is covered by the Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary, a popular wildlife sanctuary in the entirety of north India.
