About Shillong

Located in the north-eastern state of Meghalaya in India, Shillong is an extremely popular hill station as well as the capital city of the state of Meghalaya.

Located at an altitude of around 4,908 feet above the sea level, it is often referred to as the “abode of clouds.”

It is also commonly termed as the “Scotland of the East,” for the very fact that it consists of rolling hills in its vicinity, which reminded the European Settlers here of the beautiful scenery of Scotland, leading to the phrase “Scotland of the East.” According to the 2011 census of India, the population of this hill station is a little over 1,43,007 people.

The place is extremely close to the popular and capital city of the state of Assam as it lies only at a distance of 100 KM away from it.

The official language of this area is Khasi and geographically, Shillong is located in the East Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya. The atmosphere of this area is pollution free, making the climate remain healthy and pleasant throughout the year.
