Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore – Olympics Medal Winner

Winner of the silver medal for shooting at the 2004 Olympic Games held at Athens, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore was born on January 20th, 1970 in the town of Jaisalmer, situated in Rajasthan.

Ever since his win at the Olympics, he has been the poster protagonist for the Indian Shooting sport. Trained at the Indian National Defense Academy, Rathore got into the Indian army after finishing his graduation.

His interest in guns and shooting bloomed ever since his childhood days when he would see his grandfather, who was an army officer, with guns. But it was only in the year 1998, that Rathore considered the shooting sport seriously and made his mind to pursue it.

At the 2002 Commonwealth Games, he won gold medals in categories of pairs-double traps as well as in the men’s individual section. Apart from his Olympic victory, he had also won a bronze medal in men’s individual category in the Asian Games in 2006, and also won a gold medal, and a silver medal in the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

The most prominent Indian in the sport of shooting, Rathore was awarded with the Padma Shri Award by the Indian government in the year 2005.
