Sushil Kumar – Olympics Medal Winner

Born in the capital city of Delhi, on the 26th of May, 1983, Sushil Kumar Solanki, commonly known just as Sushil Kumar, is a renowned Indian wrestler who is a two time Olympic champion, one with the bronze medal that he won at the 2008 Olympic Games held at Beijing, and second with the silver medal he won at the 2012 Olympic Games held at London.

Raised in a poor family, he started his training at the age of 14 at his village in south-west Delhi, with guidance from his cousin Sandeep, who was a former wrestler. Pursuing his passion of wrestling as a career, Singh is also an Assistant Commercial Manager with the Indian Railways.

With a big list of awards and accolades to his credit, he had won the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in the year 2009, and also bagged the gold medal for wrestling in the World Championships, held at Moscow in the year 2010.

His commonwealth championships have a record, with him winning a list of gold medals in the years 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2014. He has managed to achieve victory in the Commonwealth Games as well, by winning gold medal in both the 2010 Commonwealth Games held at Delhi, and the 2014 Commonwealth Games held at Glassgow.
