About National Voters Day

National Voters Day in India is celebrated on the 25th of January every year. The event began from the year 2011, when the Government of India marked the 25th of January is the Commission’s Foundation Day and began this trend in order to encourage more and more of India’s youth to participate in the political process of voting to choose their own leaders in this democratic form of government. It is to encourage people to register themselves in the electoral rolls and also use their authority to elect leaders.

Each year, the day is celebrated with a unique theme to encourage the political process of voting in India. In 2016, the theme of the day was ‘’Inclusive and Qualitative Participation’’ while the theme for the 2017 National Voters Day, which marks the 7th year of celebration of this day is, ‘’Empowering Young and Future Voters.’’
