About Lonavala

Located in the district of Pune in the state of Maharashtra in India, Lonavala is a very famous hill station situated at a distance of only 64 KM from the city of Pune.

The official language of this place is the same as the official language of Maharashtra that is Marathi. People also speak Hindi and English here.

Both the neighboring hill stations of Lonavala as well as Khandala were discovered in the year 1871 by the then governor of Bombay presidency: Lord Elphinstone.

The population of Lonavala according to the census of India 2001 is 55,652 and it is situated 2,041 feet above the sea level in the Sahyadri Ranges linking Konkan Plains and the Deccan Plateau.

Generally, the hill stations of Lonavala and Khandala are treated as twin hill stations while traveling by the tourists. Lonavala also has a list of residential schools.

• Ryewood Park and Shivaji Udyan: A perfect recreation for kids and adults as well, its lush green and also has an ancient Shiva Temple inside the garden.
• Karla Caves: Ancient cave shrines built by popular Buddhist monks.
