About Dharamshala
Located in the Kangra district in the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh is a multi-functional place as it serves as a hill station, a town, as well as a municipal corporation of the state, and is also the district headquarters of Kangra. It was formerly known by the name of Bhagsu.
Other than these aspects, Dharamshala also happens to be the town that houses the residence of the Dalai Lama and is also the headquarters of the Central Tibetan Administration.
The town is surrounded by dense forests and it has its suburbs places like Mcleodganj, Naddi, Dharamkot, Bhagsunath, Kotwali Bazar, ForsythGanj, Ramnagar, Sidhpur, Dari, Kaccheri Adda, as well as Sidhbari.
The town has a height with an elevation of around 1457 meters and is enveloped by the Dhauladhar mountain ranges. The main languages spoken in the area are Himachali, Hindi, as well as Kangri
The word “Dharamshala” is derived from the Hindi word combination of Dharam and Shala, which when combined means a sanctuary, and also a spiritual dwelling.
The place happens to be the center of the Tibetan Exile world in the country of India and there are many students from all across the globe who visit this place to learn more about Tibetan culture as well as its literature.
