Government Jobs vs Private Jobs: The Delusional Dilemma
This question has been at the back of almost every job seeker across the globe. When one enters into the career world it always strikes a question as to which sector is the best. Each of these two sectors has its own pros and cons. While one sector may seem better in one aspect, the other sector may seem best in another field. While government jobs offer lifetime job security, private jobs don’t. Thus the dilemma in the young minds of the job seekers still remains. This article will fill in on the details about both the sectors and help you understand which is best for you.
Nowadays a lot of youth are seen as more focused on achieving a government job due to its promising job security, while some of them are interested in the private sector because of the less tedious recruitment process. This article discusses the pros and cons of both government jobs and private jobs.

Should I Choose a Government Job or a Private Job?
Read this article with a broader mind before we move to the differences between both jobs. Don’t lean onto one side as it may not open up your mind and make you think with clarity. Don’t keep a biased mindset, instead think well about it and give it a shot.
Let’s have a look at how the government and private jobs are different from each other.
Job Security
Once you enter the government sector, then you are set for life. However, private jobs don’t offer any kind of job security for their employees. As long as your documents are not forged, the job is all yours. Even in this time of the pandemic, when a large number of people have lost their jobs in the private sector due to the economic crisis, the government employees still have their seats.
Salary
The 21st-century job seekers are more interested in the number of their salary than the long term benefits. While the government jobs have fixed average salaries, the private firms provide a number much better than the government sector.
While the increments in the private sector are less compared to that of the government sector, any sort of market crash or depression won’t affect the government sector like that of the private sector.
Perks and Allowances
The real temptation lies here. While the government employees get perks like medical facilities, post-retirement allowances, economy class flight tickets for work-related travels, pensions, concessions in loans etc, the private sector employees enjoy benefits like reimbursement, on-site job offers, outings etc.
Recruitment Process
All government jobs including those in state and central government will have many vacancies and will be announced on their official websites and newspapers. So anyone and everyone can apply for the same. Whereas in the private sectors, there are consultancies that hire employees for companies, who clear the initial stages of the recruitment processes.
Holidays and Leaves
The government sector is always more lenient on giving off days than the private sector. Although the private sector employees may have to work extra during government holidays, it is not the same for the government employees. Government employees get their days off during special occasions and official holidays and get themselves more time to spend with their family and friends.
Respect and Status
Don’t know why, but those employees of the government sector are given more respect and societal status than the employees working in the private sector who may be in a similar post and who may also be paid more than his counterpart government employee. Therefore, respect is earned when you are a government official.
Growth Scale
The retirement age in government sectors is 58-60 years. So, the expected growth is considered less and over the long term. Whereas, in the private sectors, the growth of your work, talent and skills. Therefore in this aspect, the private sector has an upper hand.
Work-Life Balance
The working hours in the government sectors are fixed whereas the private sectors work times are flexible. Government employees need to work from 9-5 every day with weekends off in contrast to the private employees who have to work extra hours and get the work done at any cost, no matter what.
Creativity and Innovation
The work in a government sector is always the same, round the clock. It doesn’t require any extra effort or skill to finish off that work. Creativity goes unnoticed here. However, in the private sector, people notice you for your creative and innovative skills and ideas, which in turn helps in your growth exponentially.
Work Pressure
A normal misconception about government jobs is that they have no work pressure. It is all calm and quiet there. No hustle-bustle like that of private sectors. But no! You’re wrong. Both the sectors have their own kind of work pressure. While the work pressure is evenly distributed in the government sectors, in the private sectors it is distributed depending on your previous work contribution.
These are some of the pros and cons of government and private jobs that you should be concerned about. The ball is in your court and it’s solely your turn to hit it. So which one are you going to hit?
