About Allahabad

Allahabad is one of the most significant pilgrim spots in India, especially for the Hindus. Formerly known as Prayag, Allahabad, according to legend, was conceived as a holy altar by Lord Brahma who viewed the land as a sacred place where the three holy rivers—Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati merged. Since then there arose the most sacred spot of Allahabad—the Triveni Sangam (the merging point of the three rivers).

According to the beliefs of the Hindus, a dip into the water here washes away all your sins and based on that belief, thousands of pilgrims from all around the nation and the world come here to offer their prayers and take a dip into the holy water.

Allahabad is also popularly known as the Tirtha Raja of India—meaning the king of all other pilgrim spots. It is also believed that when Lord Rama was sent into exile along with his brother Laxman and wife Sita, he visited Allahabad.

The pilgrim attractions in Allahabad are as follows—

  • Holy Ganga River
