About Vrindavan

Located in the Mathura district within the Indian state of Uttar Pradeshm Vrindavan is one of the most popular Hindu pilgrim places and has been spoken about widely in almost every form of Indian literature and epics.

Situated at a distance of approximately 10 KM from the city of Mathura, where Lord Krishna was born, this is the same place where popular Hindu god, Lord Krishna spent his childhood days.

The sacred town has a wide variety of Hindu temples all dedicated to Lord Krishna and Radha, and many tourists from all over the country visit Vrindavan to pay their tributes to the gods.

Vrindavan has over the years been associated with a list of historical events. Although the first temple in this place is the Govind Dev Temple, built in the year 1590, it was only in the 16th century that Vrindavan revived its lost glory from the historic point of view when Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, a popular spiritual teacher and firm devotee of Lord Krishna, set out on an expedition to find more about Lord Krishna’s history, assimilating all that was present in Vrindavan, and so he did.

On the other hand, popular Hindu spiritual poetess Mira Bai, whose poetry is still popular among the people of India, especially in north India, was forever a devotee of Lord Krishna ever since her childhood. She had left her luxurious life and everything else at her kingdom in Mewar, and spent the last 14 years of her life, singing and paying her tributes to her Lord Krishna, in a temple, known popularly as the Pracheen Meerabai Temple.

During earlier days, Vrindavan was known for its beautiful and dense forest and varied wildlife, a lot of which has been mentioned in books and visual content, like in documentaries and movies.

However, with the growing concept of urbanization, even the Vrindavan forests became subject to change and as on today, most parts of the forests have been wiped off to pave way for urban living. The place that earlier used to be decked with wildlife creatures like peacocks, cows, monkeys and a plethora of birds, is presently almost void of these beings.

The popular tourist attraction spots in Vrindavan include the Madan Mohan Temple, the Meerabai Temple, the Banke Bihari Temple, the Prem Mandir, the Radha Raman Mandir, and a list of other temples.
