About Thrissur

Located in God’s Own Country, that is the south Indian state of Kerala, Thrissur is a city of extreme significance not just for being a popular Hindu pilgrim town but also for the very fact that is regarded as the cultural capital for the state of Kerala. Its significance is invaluable, all in terms of history, religion, as well as spirituality.

Many of Kerala’s most important cultural institutions are located in Thrissur, some of which are the Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy, the Kerala Sahitya Academy, and the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi.

In Hindu culture, Thrissur houses a list of important temples, most popular of which among the followers of Lord Shiva is the Vadakkumnatham Temple, and for the aren’t followers of Lord Vishnu is the Guruvayur Temple.

Other than these, the rest of the prominent temples here include the Paramekkavu Temple and the Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple.

For Christians too, the place has a lot of significance as it houses two very popular churches, namely the Our Lady of Lourdes Syro-Malabar Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Our Lady of Dolours Syro-Malabar Catholic Basilica.

The most famous festival celebrated here is known as the Thrissur Poornam festival that happens to be one of the most colorful celebrations of the country and takes place during the months of April-May every year.
