About Puttaparthi Sri Satya Sai

Located in the district of Anantpur in the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, Puttaparthi is a religiously significant town in Hindu culture. Formerly known as Gollapalli, Puttaparthi is primarily renowned for the fact that it is the birthplace of popular spiritual entity—Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba, throughout his living days, had served as a popular Indian guru as well as philanthropist, serving the needy and also being a guide for masses who sought spiritual guidance. He was also believed to be a reincarnation of another popular spiritual figure—Sri Sai Baba of Shirdi.

The place had higher popularity when Sri Sathya Sai baba was alive and he would give frequent darshans and hold spiritual sessions for his devotees. However, after his death, the main attraction of the place remains to be the guru’s ashram, followed by other significant religious spots such as the Hanuman Temple, the Satyabhama Temple—a holy shrine built by the late grandfather of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, and also a village mosque, which attracts a large number of Muslims from the nearby cities.
