About Parshuram Kund

Located on the Brahmaputra plateau in the north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh in India, Parshuram Kund is a popular Hindu pilgrim center that is widely known to garner a lot of tourist and pilgrim attention from the people of India as well as the neighboring country of Nepal.

The center is devoted to Sage Parshuram, a very popular spiritual figure among the Brahmins.

According to legend, it is said that when Parshuram had taken a holy dip in the sacred waters here, it washed away all his sins that he bestowed upon himself when he had killed many kshatriyas, after the kshatriyas had apparently killed Parshuram’s father, thus, starting a war among the two sides.

It is since then that thousands of pilgrims from all over the country as well as from Nepal visit this pilgrim place and take a holy dip in the water to wash away their sins, especially on the day of popular Hindu festival Makar Sankranti.

Since the whole site is situated on the banks of River Lohit, the place also makes a great site for adventure sports like trekking, river rafting, as well as hiking, other than its religious purposes for tourists.
