About LEH
Currently the second-largest district in the whole country of India after the Kutch district in the state of Gujarat, Leh was formerly the capital town of the Himalayan Kingdom of Ladakh.
Standing at a height of around 3,500 meters, Leh is a popular hill station and a renowned place of tourist attraction in the country. The languages spoken in this area are English, Urdu, as well as Ladakhi.
Historically, Ladakh used to serve as the main trade route between Tibet, Kashmir, as well as China through the Indus Valley.
As of today, it is well connected via roads to the popular town of Srinagar and also the popular hill station of Manali. According to the census of 2001, the population of Leh is a little over 27,513 people and the literacy rate here is 75%.
The place experiences a cool desert climate that has quite intense winters from the months of October to March every year. The temperature in this region ranges between -42 degrees Celsius to 33 degrees Celsius.
The place’s elevation point makes it worthy of growing not more than one-two crops every year and the water for the agriculture here comes from the Indus River. The main crop grown in the region is Grim—that is naked barley.
