Sarkari Result: How to Check Government Exam Results
“Sarkari result” is the everyday term many people in India use for the result of a government recruitment exam, entrance test or board exam. Every year, millions of candidates wait for these results from bodies such as the Staff Selection Commission, the Union Public Service Commission, railway recruitment boards, state public service commissions and school boards. This guide explains, step by step, how to check a sarkari result safely on official websites, what details you need and what to do after the result is out.
Our older version of this page listed recruitment notices from 2023, which are now closed. We have replaced them with a guide that stays useful for any exam.

What “Sarkari Result” Means
“Sarkari” means government in Hindi. A sarkari result can refer to several things:
- The final merit list for a government job.
- The result of one stage of an exam, such as a preliminary test, written paper, skill test or physical test.
- A board exam result for Class 10 or 12.
- An entrance exam result for admission to colleges, such as tests run by the National Testing Agency.
- Answer keys, cut off marks and score cards that are released along with or after the result.
Official Websites to Use
Always check results on the website of the body that conducted the exam. Common official addresses include:
| Exam body | What it conducts | Official website |
|---|---|---|
| Staff Selection Commission (SSC) | CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD Constable, JE, Stenographer and more | ssc.gov.in |
| Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) | Civil Services, Engineering Services, NDA, CDS and more | upsc.gov.in |
| National Testing Agency (NTA) | JEE Main, NEET UG, CUET, UGC NET and more | nta.ac.in and the exam’s own site |
| Railway Recruitment Boards | Railway jobs such as NTPC, Group D and ALP | The regional RRB website |
| Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) | Bank PO, clerk and specialist officer exams | ibps.in |
| State Public Service Commissions | State civil services and state jobs | The state commission’s own site |
| School boards | Class 10 and 12 results | Board website, results.nic.in or DigiLocker |
Government websites in India usually end in “.gov.in” or “.nic.in”. If a site has a different ending, check carefully before entering any personal details.
How to Check Your Result, Step by Step
- Keep your details ready. You will usually need your roll number or registration number and your date of birth or password. These are on your admit card.
- Open the official website. Type the address yourself rather than clicking links in messages.
- Find the results section. Look for a tab named “Results”, “Result” or “Latest News”. On the SSC site, results are listed under the results section of the portal.
- Select the right exam and year. Many exams have several stages and years listed together, so read the title carefully.
- Open the result file or log in. Some results are PDF lists of roll numbers. Others need you to log in to see your marks.
- Search for your roll number. In a PDF, use the search option in your browser or reader to find your number quickly.
- Save and print. Download the result or score card and keep a printed copy for later stages.
Understanding the Result
Results often come with other documents. Knowing what they mean helps you plan your next step.
- Qualified list. A list of roll numbers that have cleared a stage and can move to the next one.
- Cut off marks. The minimum marks needed to qualify, usually shown by category, such as general, OBC, SC, ST, EWS and others.
- Final answer key. The confirmed correct answers after objections are reviewed.
- Score card or marks. Your individual marks, sometimes released a few days after the result.
- Normalised scores. When an exam runs in several shifts, commissions may adjust marks so that shifts of different difficulty are compared fairly.
When Results Are Usually Released
Each body publishes an exam calendar. The SSC tentative calendar for 2026 to 27, for example, listed the Combined Graduate Level and Junior Engineer exams around May to June 2026, the Combined Higher Secondary Level exam from July to September, the Multi Tasking Staff and Havaldar exam from September to November, and the GD Constable exam from January to March 2027. Results normally follow some weeks or months after each stage. These dates are tentative and can change, so always confirm them on the official website.
Checking Results on Your Phone and Through DigiLocker
Most official result pages now work on a mobile phone, though large PDF lists can be slow to open on weak connections. If a file will not load, try a different browser or wait for traffic to fall. Some bodies also send results or alerts by SMS or email to the number and address you used while applying, so keep those active.
For school board results, DigiLocker is a useful option. It is a government service that stores digital copies of documents, and many boards, including CBSE, upload marksheets and certificates there. Once you link your account, you can download your marksheet and share it when applying for colleges or jobs. Many state boards also publish results on results.nic.in, run by the National Informatics Centre.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Checking results on unofficial sites that copy data and may show errors or old information.
- Waiting until the last day to download a score card, when servers are busy and links may close.
- Losing your registration number or password. Save them in a safe place as soon as you apply.
- Missing the next stage. Read the result notice fully, as it often lists dates for document checks or physical tests.
- Ignoring the answer key window. If you find an error, you can usually raise an objection for a fee within a fixed time.
Staying Safe From Fake Result Sites and Scams
Many private websites use “Sarkari Result” in their name. They are not run by the government, even if they look official. Some are simply news pages, but others carry fake notices, misleading ads or links that collect personal data. Fraudsters also send messages offering jobs or better marks for money.
- No commission will ask for money to change your result or give you a job.
- Do not share your password or OTP with anyone.
- Check that the website address ends in “.gov.in” or “.nic.in” or belongs to the official exam body.
- Report fraud on the national cyber crime helpline 1930 or at cybercrime.gov.in.
After Your Result
If you have qualified, prepare for the next stage straight away. Gather your documents, including certificates of education, caste or category, domicile and identity, and keep several passport size photos ready. If you did not qualify this time, look at your marks against the cut off, note the sections where you lost marks and plan for the next notice. Many candidates clear an exam on their second or third attempt.
A Short Note on SSC and UPSC
The Staff Selection Commission is an attached office of the Department of Personnel and Training. It was first set up as the Subordinate Services Commission on 4 November 1975 and renamed the Staff Selection Commission on 26 September 1977. It recruits staff for many ministries and departments of the central government.
The Union Public Service Commission is a constitutional body under Part XIV of the Constitution. It began as the Public Service Commission on 1 October 1926. Its exams are among the most competitive in the country: in 2023, about 1.3 million people applied for just 1,255 posts.
To find new openings, see our guide on where to find government job recruitments. You can also compare government jobs and private jobs, or plan your study with our UPSC preparation time table.
Keep a folder, either on paper or on your phone, with your admit cards, results and score cards for every exam you take.
Follow the official social media accounts of commissions only for alerts, and still confirm details on the website.
If a website is slow on result day, try again early in the morning or late at night when fewer people are online.
Read each notice in full, because important instructions are often at the end of the document.
What We Changed From the Old Post
