About Vindhayachal
Located in the Mirzapur district in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Vindhayachal is a popular pilgrim town, housing the famous temple of Vindhyavasini, believed to be an incarnation to kill the demon Mahisasur, as per the mentions in Markandeya Purana.
The holy river Ganges flows through the city and pilgrims visit the place in large numbers to offer their prayers to the deities here. Other than the main Vindhyavasini Temple, there are also other prominent Hindu temples here, such as the Kaali Khoh Temple, dedicated to popular deity Maa Kaali, the Ashtabhuja Temple, devoted to Hindu deity Goddess Maha Saraswati, the Kankali Devi Temple, dedicated to Maa Kali, in the manifestation of a skeleton, the Sita Kund, the budeh Nath Temple, the Lal Bhairav and Kal Bhairav Temples, the Tarkeshwar Nath Temple, the Sakshi Gopal Temple, etc.
The place also consists of the Shivashiv Samooh Awadhoot Ashram. Traditionally, the town of Vindhayachal also happens to be one of the Shakti Peethas spread all across the country.
