About Vaishno Devi

Located on top of the Trikuta Mountains in the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir in the extreme northern region of the country, Vaishno Devi is a popular pilgrim place and is considered to be one of the country’s holiest and most famous pilgrimages.

Vaishno Devi is also known by the names of Vaishnavi, Mata Rani, and Trikuta, and is a manifestation of popular Hindu deity goddess Mahalakshmi.

The pilgrimage here is so popular that according to statistics, more than 10 million devotees visit this shrine each and every year to catch a glimpse of the goddess and also offer their prayers.

It is believed that regardless of how much you want to visit the shrine, you cannot until you get a call from the goddess herself. In Hindi, the saying is quoted as “Chalo bulava aaya hai, Mata ne bulaya hai,” which literally means “Let’s go, the call has come, the goddess has called,” in English.

It is also said that the temple has the marks of around 33 koti deities, all of which participate in the daily prayers and rituals in the temple to pay their tribute to the supreme goddess, the Mata (mother) here.
