Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu Win Hylo Open Singles Titles

374

India won both singles titles at the Hylo Open, a Super 500 event, in Saarbrücken, Germany, on Sunday, 1 November 2026. PV Sindhu took the women’s crown and Lakshya Sen the men’s, each with a win in straight games, The Hindu reported. For both players it ended a wait. Sindhu had lost the French Open final a week earlier, and Lakshya had not won a tournament for close to a year.

Sindhu beats Kjaersfeldt in the Hylo Open final

Sindhu, the second seed, beat Denmark’s Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt 21 to 12, 21 to 14. The Dane was the eighth seed. The final lasted 39 minutes according to The Hindu and the Times of India, while Sportstar timed it at 38.

It was an even start. Kjaersfeldt went 5 to 3 up in the first game before Sindhu won five points in a row and took charge, the Times of India said. She later pulled away by winning seven straight points to close out the game, according to the NDTV live blog. In the second game she led 6 to 3, let the Dane get back to 6 to 7, and then moved clear again. At 19 to 11 Kjaersfeldt won three points in a row, but Sindhu answered with a smash and finished it at 21 to 14.

“We’ve played a lot of times, and it was important for me to focus on every point. I took the lead and I didn’t give her a chance,” Sindhu said, as quoted by the BWF.

This is her second title of 2026 after the Japan Open in July, and her third final of the year. The Times of India said she went into the match with a 6 to 1 lead in her head to head record against Kjaersfeldt. Both The Hindu and the Times of India reported that she earned 9,200 ranking points, which helps her chances of a place at the season ending World Tour Finals. NDTV said she is the first Indian woman to win the women’s singles at this event.

She also gave credit to her support staff. “There are days when you’re absolutely low, but the team is there to pump you up. It’s been an amazing week,” she told the BWF.

Her path to the final was smooth. She beat Prakriti Bharath of the UAE 21 to 10, 21 to 10, France’s Rosy Oktavia Pancasari 21 to 9, 21 to 6, and then Amalie Schulz in the quarter final, Sportstar wrote in its review. In the semi final she beat fellow Indian Anmol Kharb. Lakshya Sen ends his title drought

Lakshya, ranked 14th in the world, beat Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie 21 to 17, 21 to 10. Christie had won the Hylo Open last year and was the top seed this time, according to NDTV and Sportstar.

The first game was close for a spell. Lakshya led 11 to 9 at the break and later went 18 to 10 ahead, but Christie won seven points in a row to get back in it, the BWF said. Lakshya held on to take the game 21 to 17. The second game was one way. He led 11 to 7 at the interval and closed it out without much trouble.

“It’s been quite some time since I’ve won a tournament, so it feels really good to play this well,” Lakshya said, according to the BWF.

Speaking about his tactics, he told the BWF: “It was important to stay patient. I got a good start and I had the lead.” The Indian Express quoted that line too and noted that his high lifts took the sting out of Christie’s smash.

The win matters because his season had gone badly after he reached the All England final in March. The BWF said he had lost in the first round of his last six tournaments before this week. His previous title was the Australian Open in November 2025. The Indian Express called this his seventh career title. The Hindu said he went into the final with three wins and four losses against Christie.

His week was not easy. According to Sportstar, he beat Joakim Oldorff in the first round and then fellow Indian Kiran George, who pushed him to a deciding game. He came through against Kalle Koljonen of Finland in the quarter final after losing the first game. In the semi final he beat France’s Toma Junior Popov 21 to 17, 21 to 13. Popov had beaten him in both of their earlier meetings.

There is history here for Lakshya. He first won the title in Saarbrücken as a teenager in 2019, when he came from a game down to beat Weng Hongyang of China, Sportstar recalled.

Other Indians at the Hylo Open

Anmol Kharb had a strong week and reached the semi finals. She beat the third seed, Line Christophersen of Denmark, winning the deciding game 25 to 23, and then got past Unnati Hooda in the quarter final, Sportstar said. HS Prannoy lost in the first round to Popov.

Other titles went elsewhere. France’s Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue won the mixed doubles in three games, and Denmark’s Christian Faust Kjaer and Rasmus Kjaer took the men’s doubles, the BWF said. The official podium page lists all five winners.

What comes next

For Sindhu, the focus is now on the World Tour Finals race. Lakshya, the Indian Express said, will head home for a short break that includes Diwali. India’s wider sporting record at the Games is in our list of Indian Olympic medal winners.
