The technological advances, especially the Web, act as the key catalyst for unprecedented economic and globalization changes. The blistering pace at which the commercial face of the world is changing has altered the very foundation of how business is done.

The fear of falling back in such a cutthroat competitive environment has initiated several companies to undertake different measures. A key measure that has helped companies remain afloat in such high tides of change is corporate training.

Historical backdrop of training

As a concept, training has lived since time immemorial; the earliest hints of the concept could be traced in the forms of apprenticeship. As time flowed, the idea of apprenticeship got transformed into vocational schools in the early 1800s. However, a visible change in the concept easily accommodated the observer’s attention span with the beginning of the industrial revolution. Currently, apprenticeship is referred to as Job Instructional Training (JIT), which was formally developed during the First World War

As mankind welcomed the 20th Century, the necessity of getting trained skyrocketed to make it a formal profession. Also, the technological advances helped in accomplishing even the most complex of professional learning needs.

 Tracking developments in training methods

Hordes of training methods have been established over the years, each one having its own merits and demerits. Demonstration and lectures are two of the oldest methods, which were used to train individuals. To this day, both of these methods are among the most dependable ways to teach individuals. The rising popularity of demonstrations and lectures is owing to their simplistic flow of knowledge.

Followed by this, On-the-job Training (OJT) is another form of the method, including mentoring, internship, etc. The cutting-edge technology has helped in not only accelerating the evolution of training but making it effective. For example, the audiovisual enhancements help in making possible interactive learning for trainers.

The mix of computer and training

The nature of training underwent a sea change with the progress in computer technology. Computer-Based Training (CBT) gained a foothold in varied industrial sectors, as companies inched toward being cost-efficient. At the moment, more and more CBT approaches are developed to address the rising issues of the corporate world’s learning requirements.

 Computer based training

Also known as e-learning, the CBT came into existence during The World War II. In its primitive years, CBT was used for teaching soldiers to execute specific military operations. At present, not only military, but private enterprises and government agencies are benefitted from CBT. Today, complex sessions related to Microsoft SQL Training have been simplified with advanced e-learning modules.

Presently, most of the programs to train are modified to more sophisticated e-learning modules; however, not every organization has switched to CBTs due to its specific requirements. E-learning has taken a leap with the advent of simulation. Simulations have helped the trainees learn ways to grapple with real-world problems by creating an artificial situation.

With the high need of learning, fresh teaching trends are developed with each passing day. The corporate world is growingly signing up for leading-edge Training Programs to be ahead of the curve.
