Fans of Deepika Padukone are eagerly waiting for her much-awaited film: Padmavati, where she’s cast opposite Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. However, the fans can rejoice much more now that another film of hers starring Irrfan Khan in lead role is all set to grace the screens, and the release date for the same has been announced! Yes, you heard it right! Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer period gangster film which is produced by ace producer Vishal Bharadwaj and directed by Honey Trehan is going to be released on the 2nd of October next year, which is also a public holiday in India for Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday.
The movie is an adaption based on Femme Fatale, which is a part of a novel called, ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai,’ written by S Hussain Zaidi. The movie will depict the story of Rahima Khan, who had vowed to kill the infamous underworld don: Dawood Ibrahim. She has been also referred to as Sapna Didi, and her motive of revenge is accredited to the fact that Dawood was responsible for her husband’s death. However, the underworld king in the novel already finds out about her plan and kills her before she could even execute her strategy.
Vishal Bharadwaj was quoted by IANS saying, ‘’I think Deepika is one the finest actresses that we have in the country. She is a rare combination of superstar and good actor. It’s a rare combination that a performer is a superstar and at the same time has great acting abilities. Deepika is one of them.”
He also added, “I am more excited for my friend Honey Trehan who has been with me for last 20 years and he is very lucky that in his first film itself, he has got such fabulous cast. I am so happy and excited to produce this film. The film will go on floors in January.”
We hope that now the fans of both Deepika and Irrfan have got a reason to celebrate and we simply can’t wait to watch them portray these challenging characters onscreen!
