About Zakir Hussain
Born on the 8th of February in the year 1897 in the Indian city of Hyderabad, Zakir Hussain was a famous political personality, who was also an educationist and went on to become the third president of independent India, from the year 1967 until 1969.
He initially served as the governor for the state of Bihar for a period of six years, from 1957 to 1962, and then went on to be the vice president of India, under Dr. S. Radhakrishnan’s presidency from the year 1962 to 1967.
An intellectual, Hussain is remembered for his immense contribution towards the field of education. He was the co-founder of the famous Jamia Millia Islamia University, which is a central university located in the capital city of New Delhi, in India.
The government of India honoured him with the Bharat Ratna Award in the year 1963 for his vivid contribution in both of the field of education and politics.
The Engineering College of Aligarh Muslim University is a dedication to him, as a tribute to his efforts and contributions in education.
He also gained immense popularity for his four foreign visits during his presidential tenure to the states Hungary, USSR, Yugoslavia and Nepal.
He passed away on the 3rd of May in the year 1969.
