World Milk Day (1 st June)
About World Milk Day
Milk is a popular global food that comes with a list of nutritional benefits needed for us to sustain in life and deal with everyday challenges. On the 1st of June, every year World Milk Day is celebrated.
This day began with the objective of recognizing the value of milk and establishing it is a popular global food. The initiative was taken by the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations.
The observance of this day began from the year 2001 and has been a routine every year on June 1st ever since.
Many people in the world are not completely aware of the dairy sector, its benefits, how things work, and what’s the importance of milk as a raw product as well as an active ingredient in other products that belong to the dairy sector. One important aspect of the World Milk Day is to make people more aware of all of this.
Although the World Milk Day became a day of global observance in the early 21st century, there were many countries that were celebrating a ‘’Milk Day’’ way before 2001. Dairy plays a pivotal role in shaping a country’s economy and this day focuses on making people more informed about how the dairy industry works and its contributions to the national economy.
In the year 2016, there were around 40 countries that celebrated World Milk Day and carried out a list of activities related to inculcating in people’s minds the value of milk.
These included marathons, the family runs, farm visits to see dairy activities, demonstrations of milking, seminars, competitions and many more.
This year too in 2017, the campaign of World Milk Day has the theme ‘’Raise a Glass’’ and all social media campaigns related to the same will be promoted using the hashtag #WorldMilkDay.
