The app-based cab service Uber has included three more cities under its cash payment model on Tuesday. Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Delhi are the cities where this operation is being introduced.

It is expected that this move will help the cab service to attract more customers who have hesitated to use the service as they only accepted Paytm credits and credit or debit cards till now.

Till now, the cash payment option was available to the users in 18 Indian cities. Those are Ahmedabad, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kochi, Mysore, Nagpur, Nashik, Pune, Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Vadodara, and Visakhapatnam. With the inclusion of three more cities to the list, Uber now serves the 21 cities with the cash payment option.

The biggest rival of Uber in India, Ola cabs already offers the cash payment option to the users. It is speculated that this fresh move will help the company to compete with rival companies like Ola and Meru.

The general manager of Uber Bangalore, Bhabik Rathod said, “We’re thrilled to enable cash as a payment option for our riders today, especially on a day when commuters across India might find it difficult to get around in their cities.”

He also added, “With cash as another payment option, riders have more choice in terms of payment, in order to help them move easier from point A to point B.”

Now, while setting up the location for a ride, users in Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Delhi will be able to change the payment mode by hitting the change option and can choose cash payment option right away.

In a release, the company has said, “If riders do not see the cash option right away, don’t worry, we will be rolling this out gradually, over the next few weeks”.

Uber Delhi general manager Gagan Bhatia has said, “We are deeply committed to keeping cities moving and we’re working tirelessly with our driver-partners to ensure that there are enough Ubers available at the push of a button and no commuter is stranded”.

The company is also planning to introduce the cash payment option in Mumbai, which will avail the users in all Uber-served cities with the option to make payment in cash.
